Two Year Term Hybrid/Remote Volunteer Opportunity Candidate must reside in Ontario The ALS Society of Canada (ALS Canada) is currently recruiting volunteers to join ALS Canada’s Walk to End ALS Volunteer Committee. As a member of this group, you will work with ALS Canada staff and volunteers on sponsorship outreach, stewardship, community outreach, and event day volunteer recruitment in support of Walk to End ALS events taking place throughout month of June across Ontario. Walk to End ALS The Walk to End ALS is the largest volunteer-supported fundraiser for the ALS Society of Canada. It is a fun, family-friendly way to celebrate hope for a future without ALS, honor those we have loved and lost, and show support for the 4,000 Canadians and their families living with the disease. Funds raised through the event are essential in helping us to continue to provide community-based support to people and families living with the disease in Ontario and to ensure a strong pipeline of funding for the best of Canadian ALS research. What You Will Do: Outreach and Engagement/ Stewardship • Promote Walk to End ALS events in each community and participate in recruitment calls, inviting past participants to take part in this year’s event • Send thank-you letters to everyone involved in the event: entertainment, volunteers, and partners • Volunteers who live in the GTA: Assist with mailouts (direct mail, virtual participant packages, fundraising rewards, stewardship, etc.) at the ALS Canada office in Toronto, located at 180 Bloor Street West, Suite 500 Event Day Recruitment & Support • Participate and volunteer at 1-2 Walk to End ALS events in your region • Assist with recruitment for event day volunteers in your area through local volunteer and community websites • Help with site visits in your region a week prior to the walk date • Utilize personal networks to develop potential partnerships and event participation • Check-in volunteers on the day of the event • Help move the crowds attention to the different event elements like the Fun Zone and Honour Wall on event day • Assign and organize roles to volunteers • Oversee and act as the main point of contact for volunteers on event day • Support set up/clean up of the event Sponsorship (Optional) • Approach, establish, and maintain local sponsor partnerships (cash and in-kind donations) • Track sponsorship outreach and progress • Secure prizing and fulfillment for the silent auction if applicable • Utilize personal networks to develop potential partnerships, sponsorships, and event participation Other • Attend monthly online meetings and participate in a post-event evaluation meeting • Establish and build a strong, effective, and a constructive working relationship with staff leads and volunteers • Act as an ambassador for the cause and organization • Additional tasks as required What we are looking for: • Excellent organizational and leadership skills • Strong understanding of fundraising • Strong attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills • Comfortable approaching local community services, businesses, and schools • Excellent customer service skills • Experience supporting charity fundraising events; experience with charity walk events an asset • Willingness to leverage personal networks to develop partnership and sponsorship opportunities • Previous experience volunteering as a part of a not-for-profit committee • Strong English written and verbal communication abilities • Experience working with people with diverse backgrounds • Interest in working with and supporting individuals and families affected by ALS • Ability to commit 4 hours monthly and attend 1-hour monthly meetings and additional meetings closer to the event as required • Must reside in Ontario Volunteering with ALS Canada is an opportunity to make a huge difference in the lives of all those affected by ALS, to give back to your community, to meet new people and to have fun!
