Tour Guide Volunteer – Wild Horses of Alberta
Bearberry, AB, T0M1X0
[map]
Ongoing
Wild Horses of Alberta Society (WHOAS) is looking for calm, thoughtful volunteers to help guide visitors through respectful, educational experiences with Alberta’s wild horses.
Tour Guide Volunteers play an important role in shaping how people understand and experience horses born wild. This is not a performance or entertainment role. It is about presence, observation, and sharing knowledge while always putting horse welfare first.
What You’ll Do
*Welcome visitors and orient them to the site, expectations, and safety guidelines
*Lead small groups through on-site tours west of Sundre, Alberta
*Share accurate, accessible information about Alberta’s wild horses, their behaviour, and WHOAS’s work
*Model respectful behaviour around horses and the landscape
*Answer visitor questions
*Help create a calm, meaningful experience rooted in learning and respect
What This Role Is Not
This role is not about entertaining guests, handling or training horses, allowing petting or feeding, or promising close interactions. Tour Guide Volunteers do not control how near horses come and do not pressure horses to engage. Visitor expectations never come before horse welfare. Horses always choose how they participate.
Location & Commitment
*On-site role located west of Sundre, Alberta
*Outdoor, working environment (all seasons)
*Shifts scheduled based on availability and tour demand
You’re a Good Fit If You…
*Are calm, observant, and comfortable speaking with small groups
*Communicate clearly and kindly, including setting boundaries
*Enjoy learning and sharing information
*Are reliable and show up as agreed
*Respect that this is a horse-centred experience, not a people-centred one
