At the Wild Horses of Alberta Society (WHOAS), we care for Alberta’s rescued wild horses—horses with spirit, history, and heart. Many come to us in need of gentling, healing, and a second chance. That’s where our barn and care volunteers come in. Our mission is to protect and preserve Alberta’s wild horses through rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption. Every day, our dedicated team works hands-on with the horses—feeding, cleaning, monitoring health, supporting training, and simply being a calm, reliable presence in their lives. As a volunteer, you become part of their healing. You’ll learn the rhythms of the herd, gain skills in equine care, and experience the quiet connection that only comes from working closely with these incredible animals. Whether you’re mucking pens, filling water troughs, or brushing out a coat under the Alberta sky, your time and heart make a difference.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
Learn practical horsemanship skills, from feeding and grooming to reading equine body language and supporting gentling work. No experience? We’ll teach you.
