Join the dance and experience the heartbeat of the drum at the Lead by Example Powwow; a cross-cultural, community celebration and full contest powwow in honour of Kakato'si Kristian Ayoungman.

Powwow is a celebration of life where many nations and tribes join to share songs and dances. Powwows welcome all people and highlight the enduring strength of Indigenous culture.

The powwow will be held at the Strathmore & District AG Grounds from June 7th-9th, with 4-hour shifts scheduled in Morning, Afternoon, and Evening.

 •Cultural Sharing Day Volunteers | Lead by Example Powwow | June 6th, 2024

One of our added events is the Cultural Sharing Day for youth where we will be having local schools come to the powwow grounds to learn about First Nation culture and history and have an exclusive opportunity before the powwow begins. Scheduled from 10am-2pm on Thursday, June 6th, 2024.

Parking: Guide busses, guide students to sessions
Station Guiders: Guide classes to their stations


 •Set-up/Take down Volunteer | Lead by Example Powwow | June 6th-9th, 2024
Set up: 20
Take down: 20

Set-up: Volunteers will help with the set up of the AG Grounds. Tasks could include setting up signage, chairs, tables, booths, etc. Heavy lifting may be involved. Set-up for the powwow will be held at the Strathmore & District AG Grounds on the evening of June 6th, 2024.

Take down: Volunteers will help with cleaning up the building after the powwow is over. Tasks could include taking down signage, stacking chairs and tables, etc. Heavy lifting may be involved. Take down will happen on evening of June 9th, 2024.

 •Parking Volunteer | Lead by Example Powwow | June 7-9, 2024
10 volunteers/per session
4 Areas include: Regular parking, RV, Indian Relay, Elder & VIP & Head staff

Parking guides will help manage the parking lots for the event, duties may include directing vehicles to available parking spaces, and ensuring proper flow of traffic.

RV Parking: As an RV Camping volunteer, you'll be an integral part of ensuring a comfortable and organized experience for attendees bringing recreational vehicles to the Lead by Example Powwow from June 7-9, 2024. Your role involves assisting RV campers with parking, providing information and guidance, and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment in the RV camping area.


 •Ticketing Gates Volunteer | Lead by Example Powwow | June 7-9, 2024
14 volunteers/per session (Evening on June 7, Morning, Afternoon, Evening on June 8 & 9th)
6 at main gates 4 at RV gate, 4 at Indian Relay gate

A ticketing gates volunteer plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth entry and exit for attendees at the event. Their responsibilities will involve scanning or validating tickets, providing directions or assistance to visitors, and maintaining orderly queues or lines. They may also assist with ticket sales, troubleshooting ticketing equipment, and answering inquiries about event schedules or ticketing procedures. Additionally, they help enforce entry requirements such as checking for valid passes or credentials.

 •Clean Up Crews | Lead by Example Powwow June 7-9, 2024
8 volunteers/per session

As a Clean Up Crew member for the Lead by Example Powwow taking place from June 7-9, 2024, you'll play a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of various areas throughout the event grounds. Your responsibilities will encompass ensuring that the powwow area, entertainment areas, RV camping sites, Indian Relay stands, Indian Relay back areas, parking lots, and bathrooms remain clean and presentable for all attendees.
Additional Details & Skills Required
Volunteers will be required to attend one training session prior to the powwow where they will be briefed on roles, guidelines, and powwow etiquette.
