About Us Since 1994, Turning Points Counselling Services (Parkland Turning Points Society) has walked alongside adults impacted by intimate partner and family violence across the Tri-Region. We believe healing is possible when people are met with dignity, safety, and compassionate care—regardless of their ability to pay. All of our counselling and groups are free and trauma-informed. The Opportunity Join a small, mission-driven team and offer brief, one-to-one therapy that helps someone feel safe, seen, and hopeful again. You’ll create calm in the storm—doing focused intake, goal-based sessions, safety planning, and thoughtful referrals—while documenting care in Jane (our EMR) using supportive templates. You bring your heart, ethics, and steady presence; we provide a welcoming place to practice and a community that’s grateful you’re here. Who Can Apply — choose one pathway R.Psych or RSW (clinical scope) — independent practice; liability insurance. Provisional Psychologist — with a CAP-approved external supervisor who assumes liability and confirms supervision covers our site (submit supervision plan + supervisor letter). Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) — Master’s degree, CCPA registration, liability insurance. Master’s-level “mental health counsellor” between practicum completion and provisional registration — case-by-case with proof of practicum completion, a program letter permitting unsupervised off-site client work, and liability insurance. Time & Terms Unpaid volunteer • 3–6 hrs/week • one academic term minimum • Weekdays/evenings (some flexibility). Housing/accommodation not provided. Qualifications: Meets one eligibility pathway (shown above). Professional liability insurance covering this role/site. Strong boundaries, confidentiality, and documentation discipline. Comfort with Jane EMR (or similar); Google Workspace basics. Training: Structured site orientation (IPV dynamics, risk/safety, policies, documentation standards, Jane workflows) and access to clear protocols/templates. Note: Turning Points does not provide or assume clinical supervision. Benefits: Make a tangible difference: Help an adult feel safer, calmer, and more connected—often within the first few sessions. Practice with purpose: Offer focused, trauma-informed 1:1 therapy for people who would otherwise go without care. Professional growth, not supervision: Robust orientation, clear protocols, and Jane EMR templates; optional peer debrief huddles and case-rounds for reflective practice. (No clinical supervision provided.) Specialized experience: Build skills in IPV dynamics, safety planning, brief treatment planning, and community resource navigation. Resume-ready outcomes: Verified hours and a reference letter upon successful term completion. Workflows that support you: Trauma-aware scheduling and documentation timelines that protect wellbeing; a team that values boundaries and self-care. Community & connection: Join a small, compassionate team where your voice matters and your effort is seen. Equity in action: Contribute to free services that remove financial barriers for clients. Note: Volunteer/unpaid; housing/accommodation not provided. VOLUNTEER NOW: PARKLANDTPS.CA
