Volunteer Coordinator

ABOUT US Shea-Lynn's Butterfly Effect (SBE) is a small but growing charity focused on saving lives through seatbelt education and awareness. Volunteers are at the heart of our work, and with the right leadership, we can support more families and expand our impact across the community. OVERVIEW As the Volunteer Coordinator, you’ll help build and support the team that powers our mission. You’ll recruit, onboard, and encourage volunteers, ensuring they feel connected, appreciated, and equipped to make a difference. Your work will directly strengthen our programs, events, and community impact. This is a wonderful role for someone who loves connecting with people, building simple systems, and helping others thrive. Retired professionals, HR and recruitment specialists, event planners, community organizers, school staff, nonprofit volunteers, hospitality leaders, and military spouses are especially encouraged to apply, but anyone with strong people skills and a heart for community is welcome. WHAT YOU'LL DO Volunteer Recruitment & Onboarding • Help identify volunteer needs and create clear, inviting postings • Screen applicants and support onboarding, orientations, and training Volunteer Engagement & Support • Serve as the main point of contact for volunteers • Keep volunteers informed, connected, and appreciated • Support a positive, inclusive, and encouraging volunteer culture Scheduling & Coordination • Build and manage volunteer schedules for events and programs • Match volunteers to roles based on skills and availability Administration & Tracking • Maintain volunteer records and hours • Support simple reporting for grants, newsletters, and planning • Help update volunteer materials as needed WHO YOU ARE • A genuine “people person” who enjoys supporting and empowering others • Passionate about community building and safer communities • Reliable, proactive, and comfortable working independently • A clear communicator and thoughtful problem‑solver WHAT YOU BRING • Experience in volunteer coordination, HR, community engagement, or a related area • Strong people skills and the ability to build positive relationships • Good organizational and administrative abilities • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel); experience with a CRM or volunteer platform is a plus. • A valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle for occasional in‑person support LOGISTICS • Based in Edmonton or surrounding areas • One‑year commitment (two preferred) • Flexible schedule with occasional in‑person event support • 15+ hours per month (varies)
Certification or Education Required
No formal education or certification required.
