CommunityAIM - Empowering Citizens with Disabilities
In memory of her son Maitland Elliot, Mary along with her children Megan, Morgan, and Madison started our registered charity CommunityAim (formally known as A.S.C.C) in 2004. The goal of providing community access programs for children and youth with disabilities in the community of Spruce Grove, AB was what was strived for. It was long believed the community was in need of far more opportunities that allowed children with disabilities to become more involved and engaged, all while being more embraced by the community. Leaning on our extensive experience and knowledge, we knew we could bring families and community groups together to help bridge those gaps and create the needed opportunities.
Not long after, we soon discovered the needs were far greater than originally thought and, as a result, opened Maitland House in 2006; a community home dedicated to community access, respite care and summer camps. A close working relationship with various government and community boards, such as Children Services and Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD), saw demand for our services continued to grow. So did the age of children and youth we cared for and, with some soon to become adults, we embarked on providing dedicated Adult services by way of obtaining accreditation status and become an authorized service provider with Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD).
We are proud to be the first choice service provider in Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Parkland County and surrounding communities, as well as throughout Northern and Central Alberta. We also provide services in Edmonton and region, including St. Albert, Devon, Leduc, Sherwood Park and others. Our dedicated and passionate front-line staff, which currently number over 60, provide exceptional services across a wide spectrum of disabilities to citizens ranging from birth to end of life. In addition to our community access and employment programs, we also operate over a dozen community and support homes in the neighbourhoods we live.
