Technical Documentation & GitHub Manager (Remote, Part-Time)

Organization: Right to Live Canada Location: Remote (United States, Canada or Europe) Time Commitment: Part-time volunteer commitment, minimum 20 hours per week, including meetings and all role work. Duration negotiable, four month minimum. ------ THE MISSION Right to Live Canada is an early-stage Canadian non-profit building Continuity—a service, financial, technological, and institutional framework designed to help people maintain access to preferable living futures. One of our core projects is OpenABLS, an open-source engineering initiative focused on developing a non-clinical research platform for exploring artificial brain life support. ------ ROLE DESCRIPTION The Technical Documentation & GitHub Manager will own OpenABLS documentation across Google Drive, GitHub, and supporting website content. The goal is to create an organized, accurate, traceable, and publicly useful source of project knowledge. ------ KEY RESPONSIBILITIES -- Manage and organize the Google Drive project folder and GitHub repository. -- Establish naming, versioning, contribution, and archival standards. -- Collect, organize, and maintain technical project materials. -- Maintain project overviews, roadmaps, component documentation, build notes, source references, and release history. -- Organize complex scientific and engineering information without changing its technical meaning. -- Track missing or outdated information and follow up with contributors. -- Coordinate documentation with web, communications, engineering, and project-management teams. -- Maintain a clear distinction between validated findings, current work, concepts, unresolved questions, and long-term vision. -- Support open, AI-assisted, globally distributed development. ------ QUALIFICATIONS Universal Requirements: -- Good video and audio equipment for virtual meetings. -- A quiet, dedicated environment where you can give virtual meetings your full attention. Required: -- Experience managing technical documentation, knowledge bases, information architecture, or project documentation. -- Practical experience with Git, GitHub, Markdown, repositories, issues, pull requests, and version/release history. -- Strong Google Drive and Google Docs skills. -- Excellent technical writing, editing, organization, and information-synthesis skills. -- Ability to organize complex technical information accurately and clearly. -- Experience establishing documentation, naming, versioning, and contribution standards. -- Strong coordination, follow-through, judgment, and remote-work skills. Preferred: -- Experience with biomedical, medical-device, life-science, laboratory, hardware, or other complex technical projects. -- Open-source or docs-as-code experience. -- Website content management, including Wix or similar platforms. -- Experience organizing diagrams, CAD/3D files, recordings, presentations, and other technical media. -- Experience using AI tools for documentation or knowledge management. ------ TIME COMMITMENT Minimum 20 hours per week, including meetings and all role work. Candidates should have reliable equipment and a suitable environment for focused virtual meetings.
