Journalist Relations Manager (Remote, Full Time)

Organization: Right to Live Canada Department: Global Narrative Integrity Team Location: Remote (Canada, United States, or Europe) Time Commitment: 35 hours/week minimum, four-month minimum commitment (duration negotiable) Right to Live Canada is a virtual-office based Canadian non-profit start-up dedicated to realizing the right to live as a practical, supported, and executable choice. Founded in response to poverty-driven euthanasia among Canadians with disabilities, we are building Continuity—a service, financial, technological, and institutional framework that helps people remain connected to preferable living futures. Our work spans Continuity Service, Continuity Insurance, Social Brokerage, and Corporate Farming to create scalable solutions that protect and extend the right to live. ------ ROLE DESCRIPTION We are seeking a Journalist Relations Manager to lead the Editorial Outreach Department within our Global Narrative Integrity Team. This senior volunteer leadership role is responsible for building and maintaining professional relationships with journalists, editors, producers, publishers, and media organizations. Working closely with editorial and research teams, the successful candidate will oversee media outreach, develop evidence-based briefing materials, and help ensure the organization communicates with professionalism, accuracy, and transparency. ------ KEY RESPONSIBILITY -- Lead the Editorial Outreach Department. -- Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, producers, publishers, and media organizations. -- Develop and oversee strategic media outreach campaigns. -- Prepare briefing notes, research summaries, media packages, and background materials. -- Coordinate with editorial and research teams to ensure communications are accurate and evidence-based. -- Maintain media contact databases and CRM systems. -- Track outreach activities, correspondence, and engagement metrics. -- Supervise Editorial Outreach Coordinators and support volunteer development. -- Respond professionally to media and stakeholder inquiries. -- Develop communication templates, outreach procedures, and relationship management practices. -- Monitor outreach effectiveness and recommend improvements. ------ QUALIFICATIONS Required: -- Experience in journalism, media relations, public relations, communications, public affairs, or a related field. -- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining professional relationships with external stakeholders. -- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to tone, professionalism, and clarity. -- Strong interpersonal, networking, and relationship management abilities. -- Experience preparing briefing materials, media communications, or stakeholder correspondence. -- Excellent organizational and project management skills. -- Ability to coordinate multiple outreach initiatives simultaneously while maintaining meticulous documentation. -- Comfort working remotely with a high degree of ownership, initiative, and accountability. -- Professional judgment, discretion, and diplomacy when representing the organization externally. -- Commitment to a full-time volunteer schedule of approximately 35 hours per week. Preferred: -- Experience working in a newsroom, communications agency, nonprofit organization, government relations office, or public affairs environment. -- Established relationships within journalism or media organizations. -- Experience using CRM platforms and media contact management systems. -- Knowledge of editorial processes, journalism ethics, and evidence-based communications. -- Experience coordinating stakeholder engagement, strategic communications, or institutional partnerships. -- Interest in helping build a globally respected public affairs organization dedicated to strengthening narrative integrity through constructive media engagement. ------ TIME COMMITMENT This is a full-time volunteer role requiring a minimum commitment of 35 hours per week. Right to Live Canada is an early-stage, founder-led organization pursuing rapid national and global expansion.
