Right to Live Canada is a virtual Canadian non-profit dedicated to ensuring that every person has access to a practical, supported path toward a preferable living future. Founded in response to poverty-driven euthanasia, the organization is building long-term systems that support life through service development, innovative funding models, social impact initiatives, and organizational incubation. As an early-stage, founder-led organization, we are rapidly expanding and seeking committed volunteers who want to help build meaningful, scalable solutions.

------ ROLE DESCRIPTION
We are seeking an experienced HR Department Head to lead and grow our Human Resources function in a remote volunteer capacity. This is a high-ownership leadership role responsible for developing HR systems, managing recruitment operations, supporting volunteer engagement, and building a scalable department capable of supporting organizational growth.

Because the organization currently operates with volunteers rather than paid employees, this role focuses on volunteer recruitment, onboarding, retention, recognition, turnover management, quality assurance, and department development rather than payroll or benefits administration.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Director and leadership team to ensure critical volunteer positions are filled and the HR department operates efficiently.

------ KEY RESPONSIBILITY
-- Lead and oversee the Human Resources department and its day-to-day operations.
-- Develop HR strategies, organizational structures, workflows, SOPs, and quality standards.
-- Supervise HR volunteers, recruiters, administrative assistants, and future team leads.
-- Manage volunteer recruitment, candidate screening, interviews, onboarding coordination, and replacement hiring.
-- Monitor recruitment pipelines and ensure priority roles are staffed efficiently.
-- Coordinate department meetings, reporting, and communication across HR teams.
-- Improve volunteer engagement, recognition, reference letters, and retention initiatives.
-- Track department performance and implement continuous process improvements.
-- Collaborate with executive leadership to align HR priorities with organizational goals.
-- Foster a professional, organized, and collaborative remote work environment.

------ QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
-- Experience in Human Resources, Talent Acquisition, Recruitment, People --- Operations, Volunteer Management, or a related field.
-- Previous experience leading or coordinating HR, recruitment, or personnel teams.
-- Ability to build and improve HR systems in a startup or growing organization.
-- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
-- Experience with recruitment processes, interviewing, onboarding, and personnel documentation.
-- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a remote environment.
-- Familiarity with Google Workspace, Slack, shared calendars, and virtual collaboration tools.
-- Professional judgment and discretion when handling confidential information.

Preferred:
-- Experience as an HR Manager, HR Director, Head of HR, Recruitment
-- Manager, Talent Acquisition Lead, Volunteer Manager, or similar leadership role.
-- Experience developing SOPs, reporting structures, quality-control systems, or HR processes.
-- Background working in nonprofit, startup, volunteer, or mission-driven organizations.
-- Experience with volunteer recruitment, retention, recognition, and department scaling.
-- Interest in helping build a high-performing volunteer organization.

------ TIME COMMITMENT
This role is ideally a full-time volunteer commitment of approximately 35 hours per week. Exceptional candidates with strong HR leadership experience may be considered for a serious part-time commitment of at least 20 hours per week. A minimum commitment of four months is requested.
