Fluid Loop Lead, Open Artificial Brain Life Support (ABLS) Project (Remote, Part Time or Full Time)

Time Commitment: Part-time or full-time volunteer commitment (20+ hours/week). Duration negotiable, four-month minimum.

This is a remote volunteer opportunity with Right to Live Canada, a virtual-office based Canadian non-profit start-up.

------ THE MISSION
Right to Live Canada exists to realize the right to live as a practical, supported, executable choice.
We were founded in response to systemic poverty-driven euthanasia amongst Canadians with disabilities: cases where Canadians choose MAiD because they cannot access the essentials required to continue living. This is a specific form of economic euthanasia: euthanasia where a preferable living future existed, but was not achieved.
That crisis remains our founding application point. It is not the boundary of our work.

------ ROLE DESCRIPTION
This is a part-time or full-time, volunteer, and remote role for a Fluid Loop Lead supporting the Open ABLS project.
The Fluid Loop Lead owns the complete fluid circulation architecture. Responsibilities include pumps, tubing, fittings, reservoirs, artificial loads, pressure behaviour, flow behaviour, leak management, occlusion testing, and simulated test fluids. 
The role works closely with the Scientific Advisor and Perfusion/Life Support Advisor to ensure the engineering platform accurately represents the physical behaviour required for future research while remaining strictly non-clinical.
Responsibilities include designing fluid circuits, selecting pumps and tubing, developing artificial load modules, modelling pressure and flow behaviour, designing repeatable testing systems, supporting troubleshooting, and contributing to technical documentation.

------ QUALIFICATIONS
Universal Requirement:
-- You must possess good equipment for virtual meetings, both video and audio. 
-- You must attend virtual meetings with the capability to give it your full attention, like a dedicated office room or space. 

Required:
-- Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
-- Understanding of fluid mechanics.
-- Experience designing or analysing fluid systems.
-- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
-- Comfortable working in multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Preferred:
-- Experience with laboratory fluid systems.
-- Pump and sensor selection experience.
-- Microfluidics or perfusion research.
-- CFD simulation experience.
-- Medical device or laboratory equipment development.

------ TIME COMMITMENT
This is a part-time or full-time volunteer role requiring a minimum commitment of 20+ hours per week. Right to Live Canada is an early-stage, founder-led organization pursuing rapid national and global expansion. The role is best suited to someone who is comfortable with startup intensity, high responsibility, and a culture of serious dedication to the mission.
