Director of Issues Management & Strategic Communications (Remote, Part-Time)

Time Commitment: Part-time volunteer role targeting 15 to 20 hours per week, including meetings and all role work. Duration negotiable, four month minimum.

------ THE MISSION
Right to Live Canada is a Canadian nonprofit start-up working to make continued life a practical, supported option when people face preventable death because essential care, housing, income, treatment, financing, or other systems are unavailable.

We were founded in response to poverty-driven euthanasia among Canadians with disabilities and are building Continuity: service, financial, technological, and institutional infrastructure designed to connect people facing potential death with a preferable living future.

------ ROLE DESCRIPTION
Right to Live Canada is seeking an experienced Director of Issues Management & Strategic Communications to build and lead our Global Narrative Integrity function.

This function will monitor public coverage related to MAiD, Right to Live Canada, economic euthanasia, Continuity, and related issues. Its purpose is not to secure favourable coverage, but to improve the accuracy and completeness of the public record.

The Director will identify significant factual errors, omissions, or misleading framing; research and verify the underlying facts; determine whether intervention is appropriate; and develop proportionate, evidence-based responses.

------ KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
-- Monitor media, policy, and information channels.
-- Identify relevant coverage and emerging issues.
-- Research sources and verify factual claims.
-- Distinguish factual errors from reasonable disagreement or criticism.
-- Draft correction requests, contextual briefings, and stakeholder outreach.
-- Engage journalists, editors, platforms, policymakers, or other stakeholders when appropriate.
-- Track cases through follow-up and outcome.
-- Build practical monitoring, review, escalation, and quality-control processes.
-- Recruit, train, and supervise an initial volunteer team.
-- Convert proven workflows into a simple, repeatable operating system that can scale across countries, languages, and media environments.

The Director will help develop Global Narrative Integrity from an early-stage function into a distributed international operation while maintaining strong standards of accuracy, professionalism, and judgment.

------ QUALIFICATIONS
Universal Requirements:
-- Good video and audio equipment for virtual meetings.
-- A quiet, dedicated environment where you can give virtual meetings your full attention.

Required:
-- Significant professional experience in media intelligence, issues management, strategic communications, journalism, editing, fact-checking, investigations, public affairs, or a related field.
-- Experience building, launching, or substantially improving a media-monitoring, editorial, investigative, issues-management, or comparable function.
-- Strong ability in media monitoring, research, source verification, and fact-checking.
-- Exceptional writing and editing skills.
-- Strong editorial judgment and ability to assess when intervention is warranted.
-- Willingness to perform frontline monitoring, research, drafting, outreach, and follow-up during the build stage.
-- Experience recruiting, training, supervising, or managing a team.
-- Ability to turn practical workflows into clear templates, trackers, training materials, and operating processes.
-- Comfort using AI for research, monitoring, drafting, translation, and organization while independently verifying substantive claims.
-- Excellent organization, discretion, ownership, and follow-through in a remote environment.

Preferred:
-- Experience in newsroom operations, media relations, crisis communications, editorial standards, OSINT, fact-checking, investigations, or intelligence.
-- Experience with healthcare, disability, public policy, human rights, or other sensitive subject matter.
-- Experience monitoring international media, policy sources, parliamentary records, or social platforms.
-- Experience scaling remote, volunteer, startup, or distributed teams.

This is a part-time volunteer role targeting 15 to 20 hours per week, including meetings and all role work. Right to Live Canada is an early-stage, founder-led organization pursuing rapid national and global expansion. The role is best suited to someone who is comfortable with startup intensity, high responsibility, and a culture of serious dedication to the mission.
