Director of Insurance Product Innovation & Development (Remote, Part-Time)

Ongoing
Organization: Right to Live Canada
Location: Remote (United States, Canada or Europe)
Time Commitment: Part-time volunteer commitment, targeting 15–20 hours per week, including meetings and all role work. Four-month minimum.

------ THE MISSION
Right to Live Canada is an early-stage Canadian non-profit developing Continuity — systems designed to help people maintain access to preferable living futures when facing serious risks to life.
Our four core areas are Continuity Service, Continuity Insurance, Social Brokerage, and Corporate Farming.

------ ROLE
The Director will lead the development of Continuity Insurance, a proposed new living-benefit coverage designed to fund assessment, case planning, expert navigation, approved interventions, and provider coordination when a qualifying risk threatens a person's viable living future.
This is an early-stage product concept that is not yet approved, offered, or operating as insurance. The Director will turn the concept into a carrier-ready product architecture and pilot plan, working with licensed insurers and industry partners.

Key responsibilities include:
-- Define the coverage, qualifying events, benefits, claims journey, and customer value.
-- Identify actuarial, underwriting, regulatory, claims, service, and distribution requirements.
-- Lead product validation and pilot preparation.
-- Build and lead the insurance product-development team.
-- Recruit specialists through People Services and delegate ownership effectively.
-- Engage insurers, actuaries, underwriters, brokers, benefits consultants, legal/compliance professionals, and other industry stakeholders.
-- Use AI-assisted research and documentation while maintaining professional verification standards.

------ QUALIFICATIONS
Universal Requirements:
-- Good video and audio equipment for virtual meetings.
-- A quiet, dedicated environment where you can give virtual meetings your full attention.

Required:
-- Direct experience creating or developing a new insurance product, rider, living benefit, employee benefit, group-benefits program, or comparable regulated product.
-- Significant ownership from concept through product design and into a later stage such as regulatory review, carrier approval, pilot, launch, or operational deployment.
-- Senior leadership experience building and managing cross-functional insurance product teams or programs.
-- Practical knowledge of product design, claims, underwriting, pricing, distribution, carrier operations, and regulation.
-- Experience working directly with licensed insurers and insurance-sector specialists.
- Strong leadership, communication, judgment, commercial reasoning, and ability to operate in an ambiguous startup environment.

Preferred:
-- Experience in life, health, disability, critical illness, long-term care, group benefits, or related insurance.
-- Experience launching original products through licensed-carrier partnerships.
-- Experience with living benefits or service-based insurance products.
-- Strong Canadian insurance-industry relationships.
-- Zero-to-one startup or public-interest product-development experience.

------ TIME COMMITMENT
15–20 hours/week for at least four months. Applicants must have reliable video/audio equipment and a dedicated space where they can give virtual meetings their full attention.
