Advisor Board Member (Remote)

Organization: Right to Live Canada
Location: Remote — Canada, United States or Europe
Time Commitment: Biweekly two-hour Advisor Board meeting; attendance is non-negotiable. Additional time is required for independent review, research, and strategic guidance. Four-month minimum; duration negotiable.

Right to Live Canada is a virtual-office-based Canadian non-profit start-up building systems to help people maintain access to preferable living futures when death becomes a potential outcome.

------ THE MISSION
Right to Live Canada was founded in response to systemic poverty-driven euthanasia among Canadians with disabilities—situations in which people may choose MAiD because they cannot access the essentials required to continue living. We view this as a form of economic euthanasia: a situation in which a preferable living future existed but was not achieved.
This remains our founding application point, but it is not the boundary of our work.
Right to Live Canada is developing **Continuity**: the service, financial, technological, and institutional architecture required to keep life connected to preferable living futures. We are building toward a future in which the right to live is treated as a practical, supported, and executable choice.

------ ROLE DESCRIPTION
The Advisor Board Member will provide independent strategic guidance to the CEO and help strengthen Right to Live Canada’s organizational strategy, operations, funding pathways, and long-term growth.

------ RESPONSIBILITIES
-- Review and understand the organization’s plans, priorities, operations, and strategic goals.
-- Attend the biweekly two-hour Advisor Board meeting.
-- Advise the CEO on strategy, priorities, risks, opportunities, and organizational growth.
-- Conduct research and provide practical recommendations.
-- Provide guidance across key priorities, including Continuity Service, Continuity Insurance, Social Brokerage, Corporate Farming, OpenABLS, sponsorship, and fundraising.
-- Identify gaps, risks, dependencies, and opportunities and help support well-informed decisions.

This is a high-judgment volunteer role suited to someone who can understand complex information, think independently, and provide candid, constructive guidance in a remote start-up environment.

------ QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
-- Board, executive, strategic advisory, business development, fundraising, governance, operations, finance, policy, or related experience.
-- Experience analyzing complex organizational, strategic, financial, operational, or program-level questions.
-- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-- Strong research, organization, and time-management skills.
-- Comfort working remotely with a high degree of judgment, ownership, discretion, and follow-through.
-- Familiarity with Google Workspace, shared documents, Slack, and remote collaboration tools.
-- Ability to review a broad range of corporate information and turn it into clear, practical guidance.
-- Professional judgment, discretion, and reliability when handling sensitive organizational information.

Preferred:
-- Experience serving on a board, advisory board, executive team, or founding team.
-- Experience with non-profit governance, organizational growth, or early-stage organization building.
-- Experience with sponsorship sales, corporate partnerships, major gifts, or executive-level fundraising.
-- Experience in one or more current RTL priority areas: Continuity Service, Continuity Insurance, Social Brokerage, Corporate Farming, or OpenABLS.
-- Experience working in a remote non-profit, startup, or mission-driven organization.
Interest in helping build durable, large-scale continuity infrastructure.

------ TIME COMMITMENT
Biweekly **two-hour Advisor Board meeting**; attendance is required. Additional time for reviewing materials, research, and providing strategic guidance as needed. Minimum four-month commitment**; longer-term participation is negotiable. High level of responsibility, independence, and dedication expected.
