Helping Hands SSM

SSM Helping Hands is a volunteer-driven, non-profit charitable organization dedicated to supporting the Sault Ste. Marie community.

We operate a charity thrift store in the downtown core that serves a dual purpose. First, we provide essential goods—such as clothing, housewares, and furniture—free of charge to individuals and families facing crisis or financial hardship. Second, we sell donated items to the general public, with all proceeds directly funding our community support programs and operational costs.

Our mission is to provide barrier-free access to basic necessities for our most vulnerable residents. Beyond the thrift store, we are focused on expanding our resources to include life skills workshops, community gardening, and fostering connections with other local support agencies to better meet the needs of our clients.

Our organization is powered by a dedicated team of volunteers who manage all aspects of our operations, from sorting donations and managing the storefront to directly assisting clients. Volunteering with us is a hands-on opportunity to make an immediate and tangible impact in the lives of your neighbours.
