Mama’s Circle Child Engagement (Tuesday morning) - Moms and their kiddos come for connection and support. - Work with partner to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities for children from 2-6 years, offer snack, and clean up. - Check in and prep will happen at 9:30, with program running from 10-12. - Commitment will ideally be 2-4 Tuesdays in a month, with holiday break times. About us: Sunnybrook United Church is part of the United Church of Canada, a denomination that values being an inclusive faith community. We emphasize social justice, working towards right relations with the Indigenous community and 2SLGTBQIA+ community, interfaith relationships, and stewarding the land responsibly. What we’re looking for: This volunteer role would be perfect for high school or post-secondary students that love children. Give back to the community while adding to your resume, as well as receive mentoring from our First Third Minister in areas of child care, leadership, and wellbeing. Any person, however, will be considered if they are looking for ways to be more involved in the community. Previous faith background is not required, as long as you are open to learning about the United Church of Canada, align with the values mentioned above, and embrace inclusive faith practices. Process: Our First Third Minister, Aleesha, will contact people and conduct interviews in person or through video meeting to make sure this role is a good fit on both sides. If accepted, folks 18 and older will need to obtain a criminal record check for our files. Before starting, each person will meet with Aleesha to answer questions, provide support, and get to know the flow of each program.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
Our community builders will be a part of creating safe spaces of belonging for the young people in our programs. They will gain skills and experience that translate into different employment opportunities and add to their resume. They will also receive support, mentorship, and a reference from our First Third Minister.
