Red Deer River Naturalists

Red Deer River Naturalists is the oldest natural history organization in the province, and has been operating in one form or another for over 100 years. Operating as a not-for-profit governed by a Board of Directors and supported by a hard-working group of volunteers, this organization works to fulfill the following:
VISION:
Central Albertans respect, value and protect the natural environment.
MISSION:
Involve citizens through education and opportunities that engage them to appreciate and defend biodiversity, ecological integrity and environmental
stewardship in Central Alberta.
OBJECTIVES:
1. Protect and restore nature to reverse the trend of biodiversity decline and to conserve Central Alberta’s natural heritage.
2. Connect people with nature to help build a commitment to life-long stewardship and nature conservation.
3. Build capacity and collective voice to encourage sustainable and ethical use of natural resources.
4. Lead, engage, train and empower local naturalists.
The Board of Directors meets monthly August through May. Interesting and informative general meetings with guest speakers on a variety of natural history and environmental speakers are held monthly September through May. Bird and Flower Focus Groups meet to share outdoor experiences and fellowship. There are many ways that volunteers can be involved.
