The Port Coquitlam Arts Council was registered in 2005. This Council was created initiative by active members of the arts community, arts/heritage organizations and businesses in recognition of Port Coquitlam desire to nurture the growth of arts in our city.
The Council was instrumental in helping the City of Port Coquitlam’s in outlining the vision for a dedicated cultural facility to be built downtown to support and celebrate arts, culture and heritage as an integral part of being a complete community that is vibrant and inclusive.
The founding members of the Council also played a critical role in the planning and creation of this new cultural facility, the Leigh Square Community Arts Village and prior to that as stakeholders in the development of the city’s Cultural Policy and Plan.
Upon completion of the Leigh Square Arts Village in 2007, the Council entered into a partnership agreement with the City to provide governance and nurture the growth of the arts within this relationship by helping to support and build inclusive, diverse programs and events not only in the Arts Village but throughout the City.
