English As A Second Language (ESL) Teacher

Help adult students improve their English-speaking skills in our Beginner-level ESL class. Lessons are prepared by volunteers using guidelines from our lead ESL instructor and online resources, including ELLI ESL. This is a hands-on role focused on verbal interaction, with the understanding that students learn at different paces.

Responsibilities:
Teach and support students in developing English skills
Lead lessons using ELLI ESL and other available resources
Prepare lesson plans and evaluate student progress
Encourage students to practice speaking English in and out of class
Create a positive, welcoming, and supportive classroom environment

Requirements:
18+ years old
Reliable, punctual, and organized
Strong command of English
Clear and current Vulnerable Sector Check
Patient, kind, and encouraging
Previous teaching experience required; TESL certification is an asset (not required)
Enthusiastic and positive attitude

Volunteers can expect a rewarding experience guiding adult learners, building their own communication and leadership skills, creatively planning lessons, and engaging in meaningful cultural exchange. You’ll also have the satisfaction of seeing students gain confidence in speaking English and making real progress.
Certification or Education Required
TESL Certification is an asset ( but not required)
