Advocacy and Rights Respect Champion

8-10 hours / yearly
-
Are you passionate about inclusion, dignity, and supporting people to have their voices heard?

Join the External Rights Committee

At CLO, we support people who may sometimes require rights restrictions to ensure their safety and well-being. To make sure these restrictions are fair and necessary, we review them twice a year.

For any new or ongoing restriction to be approved, it must be reviewed by two separate committees:

Internal Rights Review Committee (IRRC): Made up of staff, managers, and directors.

External Rights Review Committee (ERRC): Made up of community members, students, volunteers, and people we support.

We are currently seeking new volunteer members for the External Rights Review Committee (ERRC).

As a member of the ERRC, you would attend quarterly meetings (once in January, April, July, and October). During these meetings, managers present the rights restrictions in place for the people they support. Each restriction is reviewed, discussed, and voted on. If a restriction does not receive majority approval, it must either be removed or not implemented.

Our meetings involve thoughtful, engaging discussions. The wide range of perspectives from our members plays a key role in helping us make fair and balanced decisions. We value the voices of those with lived experience, as well as those who bring a passion for advocacy and inclusion.

If you're interested in joining the ERRC, please email Alefe Lopes at alefe.lopes@oakcl.org with your resume.
