1:1 Community Companion

Oakville, ON, L6K2H2 [map]
2-6 hours / weekly
Ongoing
Community Living Oakville is looking for a special volunteer to build a meaningful 1:1 connection with a wonderful person (male) we support.

This individual does not use words to communicate and has limited eyesight, but experiences the world in beautiful and unique ways. He is especially drawn to music; listening to singing, instruments, and soothing sounds. He also enjoy being outdoors, particularly in nice weather, walking by the water, and watching the ducks and geese, as well as bird watching.

Sensory experiences are very meaningful, including textured items, Snoezelen environments, and other calming sensory activities. He also enjoys simply being out in the community and people-watching. Occasional outings such as a salt cave visit or similar calming experiences would be lovely as well.

Thursdays work best, ideally in the afternoon or early evening.

We are looking for someone patient, consistent, and kind, someone who won’t give up easily and understands that connection can be built in many ways beyond words. This role is about enhancing quality of life, creating moments of joy, and offering steady companionship.

If you have a gentle presence, an open heart, and a willingness to show up consistently, this could be a deeply rewarding opportunity.
