Therapy Dog Handler

Become a part of the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program and make a meaningful difference in your community with your family dog. Handlers should be a minimum of 18 years of age. St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog services are provided in a wide range of community settings such as, Hospitals, Seniors residences and care facilities, Schools, universities, and colleges, Community centres and libraries.
Minimum Requirements for handlers and dogs include:
- You must be over the age of 18 years old.
- Your dog must be at least 2 year old and in your home for a minimum of 6 months.
- Your dog must have all required immunizations up to date.
- You will be required to have a Veterinary Wellness document signed by your vet.
- Dogs must have a current license with your local city and be renewed each year.
- Dogs on a raw food diet are not eligible for the Therapy Dog Program.
- Dog cannot be a restricted breed in Ontario.
