Established in 2009, the Vancouver Avian Research Centre (VARC) is a registered charity dedicated to bird conservation. We focus on educating the public about declining bird populations and providing actionable ways for the community to help. Our mission is supported by several key initiatives, including an extensive research operation at Colony Farm Regional Park and a robust youth outreach program. You can explore our full range of work on the VARC website. We are currently seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join our Schools’ Program. While we offer remote options, many schools are requesting in-person presentations. Volunteer Commitment: • Role: Deliver engaging presentations to students (currently K–7, with older grades being added soon). • Time: Approximately 1–2 presentations per month. • Duration: Each session lasts about one hour. • Training: Initial training session provided. If you are passionate about children, birds, and nature, this is a rewarding way to give back to your community.
