The Art Studios – a program of Lookout Housing and Health Society Support community wellness through clay and connection. Join a vibrant, inclusive ceramics community and contribute your technical skills while gaining personal studio time and valuable experience. This is a volunteer role ideal for someone passionate about clay, community mental health, and keeping a shared studio running smoothly. As a Volunteer, You Will: • Help maintain the flow of the studio by recycling clay, operating two electric Skutt kilns, and managing basic equipment upkeep (wheels, pugmill, slab roller etc). • Support safe studio practices by orienting new members, ensuring PPE and cleanup protocols are followed, and responding to technical questions. • Share your knowledge through short “tech tips” demos or informal coaching of fellow volunteers. • Help track inventory and assist with glaze knowledge and firing logs. We’re Looking For: • Experience working in a ceramics studio (3+ years preferred), with hands-on kiln and glaze knowledge. • Education from community college or university in Fine Arts (ceramics focus an asset) • A collaborative spirit and comfort interacting with others in a mental health–supportive environment. • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs and perform repetitive tasks safely. • A positive, inclusive approach to community engagement and safety. Bonus assets: WHMIS or First Aid Level 1 certification, ceramics-focused diploma or degree, familiarity with common technical defects (pinholing, blistering, etc.). Please note that this is an unpaid volunteer position. Time Commitment & Perks: • Minimum: 6 hours/week on a set weekday, plus occasional kiln check-ins. • Commitment: 6-month renewable term. • Volunteer perk: Up to 24 hours/month of personal studio time. • Reference letters available upon request.
