Start2Finish is recruiting new volunteers to join us in facilitating our Running & Reading Clubs at West Dover School in Calgary. The club focuses on physical activity, literacy development and social - emotional learning. Our volunteer coaches facilitate the Running & Reading program once a week after school for children in grades 1-6. The program runs on Tuesdays from 2:45pm - 4:45pm.

Our in-person running & reading club happens once a week after school at partner elementary schools in under-resourced communities. The program is targeted for students in grades 1-6 and is free of cost. The goal of the program is to increase physical activity and literacy levels amongst students to set them up for success as they graduate into middle/high school and beyond. The program is 2 hours long and includes a warm up, running workout, stretching, games, a healthy snack, word of the day and reading/journal time. The students are working towards an end of year 5km race & reading challenge that happens at the end of May/early June. The end of year goal allows them to work towards something and is a great way to end the program and celebrate the accomplishments of the students. All of our coaches are volunteers who very graciously dedicate their time to mentor and support our students. Our volunteers are retired adults, post-secondary students , corporate volunteers and people who enjoy working with children. There really is a place for everyone!
