The Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada is looking for volunteers to join our pediatric support program. Brainwave is a program for families with a child (19 years of age or younger) with a brain tumour, offering the opportunity to connect with other families in a similar situation and to obtain much-needed support, information and education. Program Facilitator Role Overview: In this role, you will support the values and mission of Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada by helping to develop and implement beneficial, tailored programs that meet the needs and abilities of children and youth affected by brain tumours. You will work closely with BrainWave committee volunteers, staff, and other stakeholders to create group programs and events for local children, youth, parents, and families. This role is perfect for someone ready to have fun while making a positive impact! Description of Duties: • Foster a sense of belonging and connectedness among families by building strong rapport. • Organize and participate in recreational and educational activities and provide appropriate resources. • Plan and deliver high-quality programs, motivating and supporting participants throughout each project and event. • Oversee the setup of event venues, including decorations and equipment. • Manage event logistics on the day, ensuring everything runs smoothly and addressing any issues that arise. • Provide respite opportunities for parents and caregivers as needed. • Actively participate in committee meetings, program reviews, and debriefs with the Support Program Specialist to assess program progress and impact. • Create a welcoming, positive, and fun environment for all participants. Qualifications: • Post-secondary education in Event Management, Social work, Community Development, Psychology, Early Childhood Education or a related discipline is an asset. • 1-2 years’ experience in facilitating parent-child and parent-teen programs and event planning. • Knowledge of community services, supports and resources. • Current Standard First Aid & CPR certificate an asset. • Vulnerable Sector Police Check Required Time Commitment: • 5-7 hours per month with more frequent meetings closer to the event. • Commitment is flexible based on your own schedule. • All BrainWAVE volunteer roles are designed as two-year terms, with the opportunity to renew for one additional term.
