The Support Group Facilitator supports and directs the process of the support meetings. They may be required to help the group discuss an issue, solve interpersonal difficulties, assist group members looking for community resources, arrange guest speakers, develop weekly topics and ensure the meeting meets the member’s bill of rights. It is the role of the Facilitator to ensure that the needs of each person attending the group are met within the scope of the group’s mandate. The Facilitator is supported by the Support Services Specialist at Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada and will be offered training and ongoing check-ins. 

These meetings are hybrid, which require the successful candidate to run meetings in-person-while also hosting attendees online.

Additional Details & Skills Required
The Support Services Specialist from Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada will assist in training the appropriate candidate for this role. The Support Group Manual will be provided for guidance and reference in training. The Facilitator is invited to Volunteer Support Group meetings for ongoing professional development, networking and support.
Certification or Education Required
Volunteers must be 18+ years.  It is recommended but not necessary that volunteers in this role be health care professionals or studying in health sciences or health services (e.g. nurse, social worker, occupational therapist, social services worker, a student in any of these fields, medical student).  Volunteers will be asked to obtain a Vulnerable person check due to the nature of the position.
