Volunteer with Newcomers to Canada (individual or family match with a focus on language and literacy)

Help create a more inclusive city by volunteering as a community connector with individuals or families who are new to Canada. You'll help newcomers adjust to daily life through conversation, activities, and socializing.

Community Connections volunteers can:
• Offer social support and promote social inclusion
• Practice skills that help with daily activities
• Support informal language learning by conversing in English
• Introduce their matches to people and places in the community
• Promote cross-cultural interactions by talking and learning about each other’s traditions
• Exchange ideas, information, and resources

Support individuals and families who are learning English through school and language training programs. Volunteers will promote well-being by offering social connection, homework help, the chance to practice conversational English, and accessing language support resources in the community.
Additional Details & Skills Required
Community Connections Volunteers receive information and orientation regarding working with newcomers to Canada, as well as on-going training opportunities and support from the Community Connections Volunteer Programs team.
