Self-Management BC is a non-profit organization and part of the University of Victoria's Institute of Aging and Lifelong Health. We are solely funded by the BC Ministry of Health which means that all of are programs are provided at no cost to all of our adult BC residents. These programs have been around for 20+ years, are situated in over 20+ countries around the world and were founded out of Stanford University by Dr. Kate Lorig, who has co-authored all of our resource books which are included in our evidence-based, peer-led programs. We are a volunteer-led organization. Many of our volunteers were participants in our programs at some point.

The MAIN goal of our programs is for HEALTH IMPROVEMENT which is achieved through self-efficacy. We focus on improving the health and quality of life for anyone suffering from chronic conditions, chronic pain, cancer and diabetes and to assist families, health-care providers and others in meeting challenges of an overburdened healthcare system.

Participants will learn to gain confidence and motivation, learn valuable , life-long skills and share connections with other.

Training our Volunteer Program Leaders is a constant goal and happens year-round.. Training starts with our Chronic Conditions Program and can take place either virtually or in-person. If you are interested in this wonderful opportunity, please connect with us.
