Cultural Diversity Celebration at Rutland Middle School, Kelowna
Rutland Middle School is excited to host its very first Cultural Diversity Celebration, a school‑wide event that brings students, families, and community members together to celebrate the many cultures, traditions, and stories represented in our community. This celebration focuses on hands‑on, experiential learning, where students engage directly with community volunteers through short cultural stations that highlight lived experience, creativity, and connection. Community involvement plays a vital role in helping students learn from real voices while strengthening relationships between our school and the wider Rutland community. As part of the celebration, students will also have the opportunity to try small samples of foods from around the world. These tastings help bring cultural learning to life by allowing students to connect flavour, tradition, and story in a meaningful way. As a volunteer, you would facilitate a cultural station or activity with small groups of students throughout the morning, June 10th- 9am-12pm (20 minutes per group). This could include sharing music, crafts, dance, language, calligraphy, games, traditions, clothing, stories, or other cultural experiences meaningful to you. Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
Volunteering at Rutland Middle School’s Cultural Diversity Celebration is a rewarding way to give back while being part of a joyful, well‑organised community event where every contribution matters. Volunteers have the opportunity to support hands‑on student learning, celebrate and share cultures from around the world (including food, traditions, and stories), connect with school staff and local community members, and help create an inclusive, welcoming experience for young people.
