Social Media Coordinator

Sawa World is looking for a Social Media Coordinator to support and grow the organization’s online presence while helping connect a global audience with the communities served in Uganda. This role focuses on guiding content direction, shaping how Sawa World’s work and impact are communicated, and supporting efforts to build awareness and engagement. Working closely with the Media Coordinator, the Social Media Coordinator will contribute ideas, help refine content approaches, and identify opportunities to improve audience engagement and reach. The ideal candidate is creative, tech-savvy, and comfortable working with digital platforms, with an interest in contributing ideas that strengthen Sawa World’s digital presence. Main Duties Social Media Management - Share insights on social media trends, best practices, and platform changes that could improve Sawa World's online presence. - Help identify opportunities to better connect Sawa World's on-the-ground stories with audiences around the world Content Creation & Scheduling - Support periodic content reviews to assess what's resonating and recommend ways to improve reach and engagement. - Bring forward new ideas to improve engagement and reach across platforms. - Review and provide constructive feedback on social media content drafted by the Sawa World team, ensuring it is clear, compelling, and aligned with our voice and values - Contribute to the content calendar by proposing timely and relevant content ideas, including awareness days, milestones, and campaign moments Campaigns & Paid Advertising - Brainstorm and co-develop ideas for social media campaigns that amplify Sawa World's mission and engage our audiences across LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and beyond. - Support and coordinate digital campaigns that contribute to brand awareness and fundraising goals, including assisting with the planning, execution, and monitoring of paid social media efforts. Community Building - Suggest ways to foster an engaged and supportive online community by encouraging participation, conversations, and user-generated content, while ensuring interactions reflect - Sawa World’s values. Collaboration - Work closely with internal teams to align social media content with broader organizational priorities, campaigns, and messaging. - Collaborate with the Media Coordinator to refine the created captions, copy, and visuals before publishing. - Suggest creative angles, themes, and storytelling approaches to strengthen existing content and boost its impact. Analytics & Continuous Improvement - Track basic performance metrics (e.g., engagement, reach, growth) and brainstorm insights with the Media Team to help improve content effectiveness and audience engagement. Stay Current - Stay informed on social media trends, platform updates, and best practices, and suggest practical improvements to enhance Sawa World’s digital presence.
Certification or Education Required
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, digital media, or a related field. Proven experience in managing social media accounts for non-profit organizations or similar social enterprises. Excellent writing and editing skills, with an understanding of online communication and youth-oriented language. Strong design skills and experience with graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
