Foothills Land Trust (“FLT”) was established in 2003 as an Alberta Non-Profit Public Company (Corporate Access No. 5110474979) and as a Federally Registered Charitable Organization (Registration Number 8839 13006 RR 0001). It is a local, community-based, land trust that operates solely in Foothills County, which is situated adjacent to the City of Calgary. Developmental pressures are increasing within the County and this treasured landscape is vulnerable to considerable fragmentation.

We were established in response to a growing interest in land conservation within the County and because of an expressed desire for a land trust responsive to local needs. FLT specializes in taking on smaller properties that are not suited to larger regional and national organizations. FLT then looks to add other suitable properties nearby to achieve connectivity on a small scale.

Our mission is to conserve and connect natural landscapes within development-probable areas of Foothills County. One of our key initiatives is to protect and maintain important wildlife corridors and riparian areas within the context of the larger Bow Basin.

FLT holds Conservation Easements (CEs) on seven (7) properties totalling 364 hectares (900 acres) and owns one property covering 18.3 hectares (45.2 acres) outright.

FLT is operated entirely by a small group of dedicated volunteers. It collaborates with other like-minded organizations whenever possible.
