Volunteer Coordinator

2-3 hours / weekly
Ongoing
VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

Organization: Heart of the City Arts Academy\
Location: Greater Vancouver
Commitment: 2–3 hours per week

THE MISSION

At Heart of the City Arts Academy, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to discover their creative voice. We provide free performing arts lessons — music, theatre, and dance — delivered in partnership with schools, community organizations, and volunteers. By removing financial barriers, we empower youth to unlock their potential, build confidence, and connect with their communities through the arts.

We are looking for dedicated Volunteer Coordinators to help us manage the passionate people who make our programs possible.

THE ROLE

As a Volunteer Coordinator, you will be the primary point of contact for our volunteer base and act as a bridge to the schools in which we operate. You will ensure our instructors are vetted, supported, and inspired to deliver high-quality arts education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Recruitment: Post and manage volunteering opportunities on online platforms and increase reach through your network and social media.
Onboarding: Conduct interviews, reference checks, and ensure all volunteers have a valid criminal record check with a vulnerable sector search.
Scheduling: Coordinate volunteer shifts with school liaisons for weekly lessons and special performances across Greater Vancouver locations.
Engagement: Act as the culture lead, ensuring volunteers feel valued through regular check-ins, feedback loops, and appreciation initiatives.
Database Management: Maintain accurate records of students, attendance, volunteer hours, contact info, and availability.

WHAT YOU BRING

You’re a natural communicator who can talk to anyone, from university students to retired professionals.
You’re a fan of spreadsheets, calendars, or project management tools.
Familiarity with the diverse communities of Greater Vancouver is a major plus.
You don’t need to be a virtuoso, but you believe in the power of performance to change a child's life.

WHY JOIN US?

Directly contribute to the mental well-being and creative growth of local youth.
Much of this role can be done from home, with occasional site visits to see the programs in action.
Join a network of artists and changemakers in the BC nonprofit sector.

HOW TO APPLY

Please send a brief resume and a note about why you’re interested in this role to volunteers@heartcityacademy.org with the subject line “Volunteer Coordinator”. Note that as we work with vulnerable youth, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a criminal record check.
