Volunteer Tutor - Computer Skills for Work (CSW) Program

Are you retired or looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community?
We are looking for patient, supportive volunteers who enjoy working with adults and are willing to share their knowledge and experience. As a volunteer tutor, you’ll help learners build practical computer and workplace communication skills that can increase their confidence and independence.  This is a long-term volunteer commitment. We ask tutors to commit to a minimum of one year, with 2–3 tutoring sessions per year. Each session is approximately 8 weeks.

What You’ll Do:
•	Lead small-group lessons using course materials and resources provided by the program.
•	Support learners with introductory computer skills and business communication.
•	Encourage learners and help build their confidence as they learn.
•	Communicate regularly with program staff.
•	Attend mandatory training workshops and orientation sessions.
The courses are introductory-level and are designed to help adult learners develop foundational workplace skills.

Topics include:
•	Introduction to Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
•	Review of Microsoft Word
•	File management
•	Business numeracy for the workplace
•	Basic business communication

Time Commitment
Tutors meet with learners a minimum of three times per week during each 8-week session.
We ask volunteers to make a minimum one-year commitment, which typically involves 2–3 sessions per year.
Schedules are based on program demand and learner availability. Volunteers are matched with learners based on availability, subject area, and location.

Who We’re Looking For
This opportunity is particularly well suited to retired professionals and others with workplace experience who would like to share their knowledge and make a meaningful contribution to their community.  You don’t need to be a professional teacher. What matters most is your patience, reliability, willingness to help others, and confidence with the course material.

Our next volunteer intake and training session will take place in Fall 2026. We are currently looking for volunteers in Milton (evening) and Oakville (morning & evening).
