Building Community. Growing Hope. Supporting Change.

The Mustard Seed helps to meet the basic needs of shelter, food, clothing, acceptance for men and women experiencing poverty, and work with them to find sustainable housing and employment. We care about the whole person – physical, mental and spiritual. We recognize that the root causes of poverty and homelessness are complex and diverse, and so we continue to grow and evolve with the needs of those we serve.

Meal Service
The Mustard Seed’s meal program serves evening meals Monday through Saturday for individuals and families.
The Mustard Seed Food Depot provides free food hampers to families and individuals. Volunteer intake workers help over 7,000 clients a year.

Personal Assistance Centre
The Personal Assistance Centre (PAC) provides short-term relief to individuals and families by supplying small household goods, personal hygiene items and clothing – free of charge. The items are displayed in a store-like environment where individuals can use a shopping list to find the items they need. PAC is based on the belief that everyone is equal and should be given the opportunity to present themselves in a dignified manner.

Employment Services
Employment coaches assist community members with various training opportunities, resume building, job searches and interviews, and one-on-one support during the early stages of employment.
Community members have access to work attire and personal protective equipment through PAC.

Housing
The Mustard Seed owns and operates Westwood Manor, a 20-unit affordable housing initiative. It provides homes to ‘chronically homeless’ men and women, and offers 24/7 access to onsite housing support workers.
Our Housing First philosophy connects guests with safe, affordable housing and community connections.

Spiritual Care
The Mustard Seed provides opportunities for the community to meet their spiritual needs through various ministries. As a Christian organization, spiritual care is foundational to what we do and it enriches the relationships we have with our community members, volunteers, donors and staff. The Mustard Seed welcomes everyone and our spiritual programs are offered voluntarily to those who seek them out.

Community Engagement
We recognize that to make effective positive change we need to touch the lives of both those affected by homelessness and poverty as well as individuals that feel removed from its consequences. Through our community engagement opportunities - Speaker Series, Social Issues Walks, Democrews etc. – we hope to engage the greater community and trigger sustainable change that stems from mutual acceptance and a willingness to help our neighbour.
