Call for Learning Centre Literacy Association New Board Members

TLCLA Board 
Our Board is a volunteer-based governance Board. 
The role of the Board is to: 
•	Determine the organization’s mission and overall strategic direction
•	Organize and carry out effective fundraising
•	Monitor organizational performance 
•	Select, evaluate and collaborate with the Executive Director 
•	Amend organizations rules and bylaws 
•	Promote and support the organization and its purpose 
•	Approve audited financial statements and appoint the auditor 
Board Member 
A member on the TLCLA Board will:  
•	Actively support TLCLA’s mission, values, and philosophy 
•	Attend Board/Committee meetings, planning, and evaluation sessions
•	Add value to the Board’s deliberations and decisions
•	Support fundraising initiatives when required
Board Members Term
Board Members are elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). A Board Member is elected for a two (2) year term with option for re-election. 
Board Composition 
The Board is currently seeking up to three (3) volunteer board members representing the community. 
Qualifications
Successful applicants will have:
-	An interest in community-based learning and literacy development for adults
-	A belief that they can make a difference in their community
-	A belief in the value of diversity and inclusion, and a commitment to promoting equitable opportunities for individuals from all backgrounds
-	Personal maturity and teamwork skills
-	Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Note: Previous experience with TLCLA, or past work on a board, is not required.
Time Commitment
Board Members attend Board meetings which are held approximately every 6 weeks at a time to be decided by Board Members at the first meeting following the AGM. Typically meetings are held on weekday evenings. Meetings are mostly held virtually with the exception of the Annual General Meeting and other occasional special events. Additional committee meetings will occur. Each committee decides the dates & times of those meetings. It is expected that each Board Member sit on at least one committee.

Recruitment Process
The Nominations Committee will conduct interviews for vacant Board positions during the month of May, 2024. Short-listed candidates will be voted in at the AGM on June 6th, 2024. All successful candidates will require a Police Information Check with a vulnerable sector search.
