Three Year Term
Since 1942, The Family Centre (TFC) has been empowering families and children to thrive by connecting people with one another, improving individual mental health and well-being, and providing resources and tools that strengthen families. Together we are building healthy, safe, and connected communities. The Family Centre has a strong reputation for providing quality services, basing our work in research and evidence-based practices. We focus on trauma-informed care for the children and families we support, as well as our employees. The Family Centre strives to have a diverse team, reflecting the diverse communities we serve. We are committed to Indigenous ceremony and practice and welcome knowledge of ceremony and lived experience. Role Description TFC’s Board of Directors is inviting applications from candidates interested in serving a three-year term. This is a volunteer Board Member role that involves strategic planning and governance responsibilities using the Carver model. Serving on the Board is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the well-being of children, youth, adults, and families in our community. Board members help guide our organization, contribute to the long-term strategic direction, and ensure strong, ethical governance. It is also a chance to share your expertise for the benefit of vulnerable or underserved populations, support culturally responsive and inclusive practices, and grow as a leader while collaborating with other community-minded professionals. The Board of Directors facilitates outcomes in a hybrid environment. Monthly meetings of the Board preferably, although not exclusively, are held in person at The Family Centre office (9912 – 106 Street, Edmonton). Subcommittee work is generally delivered in the virtual environment. The time commitment is approximately 5 hours per month. The Board has identified the following competency areas, experience, and characteristics that would enhance the diversity of thought and expertise of our Board: • Strategic planning and governance skills • Community engagement and networking skills • Experience working in the field of Children and Family Services or related fields • Previous board or committee experience • Concern about our community and families facing challenges in today’s world. Our goal is for the board to be representative of the community served by The Family Centre. More information about The Family Centre is available via our website familycentre.org. Please note that there is no expectation for a single applicant to meet all of the above criteria for capabilities, skills, or personal attributes. For questions or to apply, please contact Faye Rault, Board Chair at Faye.Rault@familycentre.org. Applicants are asked to attach their CV. The Family Centre acknowledges that we are on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional meeting ground, gathering place, and traveling route for the nehiyaw (Cree), Anishinaabe (Ojibway/Saulteaux), Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), Métis, Dene, and Nakota (Stoney).
