As a non-profit organization that has been serving pregnant and parenting teens in Edmonton for over 50 years, Terra is recognized for its leadership, innovation and collaboration. Through the compassionate work of the staff and a comprehensive range of services, we help young parents and their children to develop and reach their full potential by recognizing and responding to their unique and individual needs.

Join Terra’s Board of Directors
The Board provides a governance function that advances and safeguards the mission and vision of Terra. The Board is responsible for long-term strategic planning, direction, and policy development that reflects Terra’s organizational culture, values, and operating principles. The Board works as a team with the Executive Director who leads all aspects of Terra’s operations.

In particular the board is seeking: (a) those with prior board experience, and
(b) those with legal background/education.
As a member of the Board, you will contribute to Terra’s success through the following activities:
•	Oversee the development and approval of the strategic plan
•	Provide financial oversight, approving the annual budget and agency financial position.
•	Meet annually with the auditor or as required
•	Provide oversight and guidance on the effective management of agency financial resources
•	Participate as a member of the Legal Audit Finance Building Committee, meeting at minimum quarterly
•	Act as an ambassador and advocate for the agency within the community and at public events
•	Bring a lens of equity diversity inclusion to dialogue and decision making


The Board of Directors should be prepared to invest the following time to Terra’s board activities:
•	Minimum commitment to one three-year term with the opportunity to renew for a second three-year term
•	Available to attend Board meetings regularly on the fourth Wednesday of every month from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, except for December/July/August
•	Participate in Ad Hoc or Standing Committee work; approximately one to two hours per month, depending on the committee’s activities
•	Participation in an annual planning day

•	Willing to learn and grow; to understand the communities we serve and their challenges
•	Skills to work effectively with others; respectful communicator
•	Willing to participate in fundraising activities through presence at networking or social events, financial contributions where possible, and/or other in-kind support

Nominating Committee. Candidates are requested to identify at least one of the following committees they would be best suited for: (1) Executive (Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, etc.); (2) Governance; (3) Legal, Audit, Finance; (4) Stakeholder Engagement.
