Position: Sports Director
Reports To: Board of Directors, Spruce Avenue Community League
Position Type: Volunteer Board Member

Overview:
The Sports Director is a key member of the Spruce Avenue Community League Board, responsible for overseeing the sports and recreation programming within the community. This role involves coordinating a variety of sports and recreational activities, such as basketball, soccer, baseball, and more, ensuring they are accessible and enjoyable for community members of all ages and skill levels. The Sports Director acts as a liaison between the Board, community members, and external organizations to bring high-quality programming to the Spruce Avenue area.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Management:
Oversee the development, planning, and execution of sports and recreational programs, including but not limited to basketball, soccer, baseball, and other community-driven activities. Ensure programs align with community needs and interests.

Staffing:
Hire, manage, and support program staff and volunteers, ensuring they have the resources and guidance needed to run successful programs. This includes recruiting coaches and facilitators, and maintaining communication with them.

Collaboration and Communication:
Act as the primary point of contact for sports-related matters within the community. Communicate regularly with the Board, community members, and external organizations to coordinate programming, share updates, and gather feedback. Collaborate with other leagues, clubs, and agencies to bring additional opportunities to the community.

Budgeting and Resource Allocation:
Work with the Board to create and manage budgets for sports programs, ensuring that resources are used efficiently. Track program expenses and report financial status to the Board as needed.

Program Promotion:
Develop and implement strategies to promote sports and recreation programs within the community. Engage with local schools, community groups, and other stakeholders to increase participation and awareness of available programming.

Evaluation and Reporting:
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the sports programs, collecting feedback from participants and stakeholders. Provide regular updates and reports to the Board on the progress and success of sports programming.

Qualifications:

Must live in Spruce Avenue to be on the board.
Strong passion for sports, recreation, and community building.
Previous experience in sports program coordination or community engagement is preferred.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders, including community members, volunteers, and organizations.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to think strategically and problem-solve.
Must be able to commit time to attending monthly board meetings and be actively engaged in programming.
Commitment:
This is a volunteer position with a commitment to attending monthly Board meetings and supporting sports programming year-round.

As Sports Director, you will play an integral role in ensuring that Spruce Avenue continues to be a vibrant, active, and inclusive community for all residents. Your leadership will help build connections, encourage healthy living, and create lasting memories for community members of all ages.
Certification or Education Required
