Recruiting Volunteers for Mill Woods Canada Day 2026!
Sign up link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfEsMN14gDOIiasU32plEkFZ3_kTBee1uUeGm7xsBYCLxMFGw/viewform?usp=dialog July 1st, 2026 is Canada's 159th birthday, and the Mill Woods President's Council is actively recruiting members of the community who want to volunteer for us and help make our annual Canada Day Celebrations a success. It's a great way to interact with others, enjoy the festivities, and all in all, have a wonderful time. You can also add this experience to your resume and collect volunteer hours. Please read all information below carefully. The 34th Mill Woods Canada Day Celebrations takes place at Mill Woods Park (closest intersection: 66 St and 23rd Ave; directly across from Mill Woods Town Centre) on July 1st, 2026 from 2:00 pm to 11:30 pm. We are seeking volunteers to help out before and during the event. We ask all volunteers to arrive 10-15 minutes before their shift to sign-in at the Volunteer Tent. All volunteers will be offered a digital volunteer certificate (if requested), food, snacks, and other goodies. There will be a mandatory 30-minute online orientation (Time TBD at end of June) on Zoom. Link will be provided via email following registration. Past volunteers will still be asked to attend. The orientation serves as an important refresher and also provides new information regarding changes implemented to this year's event. Roles include but are not limited to: Children's Activities - Managing crowds at lines, helping with activities, and other miscellaneous tasks. You will be interacting with children. Note: We may request that you perform a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening. We will reimburse you after you provide us with the document provided by Edmonton Police Service (EPS). Waste Warriors Crew - Garbage pickup; ensure cleanliness of the park grounds. Popular for groups signing up to volunteer together (i.e., sport teams, families). There may also be opportunities to hand out Canada flags to the public as well. We will provide tongs, gloves, and garbage bags. Info/Volunteer Tent - Share info about the event; break relief for fellow volunteers. Apply tattoos onto guests. You will be asked to interact with guests attending the event. If you have food handling experience, we may station you at the Volunteer Tent to serve food after their shifts. **New for 2026: we will have a temporary tattoo station in the evening. You are grouped with the Info/Volunteer Tent volunteers but will be specifically focused on tattoos** Parking Lot Steward - Monitors entry points to ensure unauthorized vehicles/Gators do not enter. A relatively mundane role - we encourage you to sign up with a friend/family member so that you could be stationed together. You are welcome to bring a book to read, if you would prefer. Great for those who prefer a laid-back role with minimal interaction with guests. Stage Entrance Steward - Ensure unauthorized personnel do not enter the back stage areas. There is some activity in this role but is relatively more mundane than most positions. There are opportunities to hand out Canada flags to the public who are near the stage area (if you are looking for more interaction with the public). If you would like this role to be more interactive, there is also an option to go around the stage area offering lost kids stickers for parents. Parents write their phone number on these stickers and put them on the back of their child(ren) so that they can be quickly reunited if ever separated during the event. Site Set-Up Crew - Move items like garbage cans, tables, chairs, and setting up signage. You will be working collectively with other volunteers. Great for those who enjoy hands on tasks. For the 11:00am-2:00pm site set-up shift, you may also be asked to help sign in and hand out uniforms to fellow volunteers who are coming in for their afternoon shift.
Why should you volunteer for this opportunity?
Meet new people, celebrate Canada!
