Edmonton Area Treasurer
Are you a bookkeeper or accountant looking to make a meaningful impact in your community? We are actively seeking an Adult Volunteer to serve as the Treasurer for the Edmonton Area. About the Role: As Area Treasurer, you’ll play a key role in supporting Girl Guides programming across Edmonton by managing and overseeing the area’s finances. This is an exciting opportunity to use your financial expertise to empower girls and women while ensuring strong fiscal stewardship within our organization. Responsibilities: Verify and approve expenditures in alignment with Girl Guides' financial policies Track and maintain all area-level financial records Manage a budget of over $200,000 Oversee financial planning and reporting, including an Action Management Plan for our two area camps Collaborate with the area council and provide monthly financial updates Support the budgeting process using Excel and Vena budgeting software Time Commitment: Approximately 10–15 hours per month Annual appointment, renewable for up to 5 years You don't need to live in the Edmonton Area - Position can be managed virtually Skills & Qualifications: Background in bookkeeping or accounting Strong organizational and time management skills High attention to detail Proficiency with Excel; familiarity with Vena is a strong asset Previous volunteer experience is an asset, but not required This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute your professional skills in a volunteer capacity while supporting the development of girls and young women in your community. Additional Details & Skills Required
Training will be ongoing, and help is offered as needed. You do not have to be a member of Girl Guides of Canada or live in our local area. We hold bimonthly meetings where you present a financial report (about 10 minutes). Throughout the months, you will approve subsidies and other expenses. You will work with the executive council to create a budget one a year as well.
Certification or Education Required
A background in bookkeeping or accounting is an asset
