Looking to gain experience in tutoring from the comfort of your home? Become a United for Literacy tutor! United for Literacy believes everyone has the right to literacy and education in a positive and safe environment that meets each learner's unique needs. We have been on the front lines of reading help since 1899 and we continue to be an organization that works with and for our community. Volunteers will be paired with one learner and will commit a minimum of one hour a week on an online platform to provide homework help, reading or other academic support. Learners will range in age from 7-16 years old. Scheduling will be flexible and based on the availability of the learner and tutor. We are looking for flexible, enthusiastic, and caring volunteers who are interested in benefiting their community. As a volunteer, you will not only be an academic support for the students, but also a guide who will demonstrate strategies and tools to help increase confidence and establish goals for success. Volunteers must be open and understanding of other cultures. Experience working with children/youth in an educational setting is an asset but not required. Bilingualism would also be an asset, but similarly is not required. If you would like to apply, please fill out our inquiry form: https://www.unitedforliteracy.ca/volunteer Once we receive notification of your inquiry form, we will contact you with our application form. Our applicant screening process involves an interview, two references (who will be contacted), and a police records check (Cost covered by United for Literacy). Deadline to apply is September 22th 11:59pm MST
