Elementary School Reading Buddy Program
United for Literacy believes everyone has the right to literacy and education in a positive and safe environment that meets each learner's unique needs. We have been on the front lines of reading help since 1899 and we continue to be an organization that works with and for our community. Volunteers will commit one to two hours a week in person to supporting elementary aged students with reading and writing. Volunteering will take place during school hours during the following times: TUESDAYS Morning Slot 10:25-11:30 Lunch Club 11:30-12:15 Afternoon Slot 12:30-2pm Volunteers do not need to sign up for all 3 slots. This program is hosted by an Edmonton Public School school near Bonnie Doon. Resources and training will be provided. We are looking for enthusiastic, caring, and dedicated volunteers who are interested in benefiting their community. As a volunteer, you will not only be an academic support for the students, but also a guide who will demonstrate strategies and tools to help increase confidence and establish goals for success. Additionally, volunteers will occasionally participate in school activities. Volunteers must be open and understanding of other cultures. Being a volunteer within the school environment is an excellent teaching experience for prospective teachers.
