Burdock Blitz at maskihkîy meskanaw - Glory Hills
Thursday, July 30th 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm maskihkîy meskanaw - Glory Hills (https://www.ealt.ca/maskihkiy-meskanaw-glory-hills) , as mentioned above, is a property that is home to many native plants, including medicines important to Indigenous traditions. There are many species of invasive plants that threaten the property, and Woolly burdock is one of them. These plants also pose a specific danger, as the patch is right next to our bat boxes. Burdock burrs are so large that they can actually trap Little brown bats on the stalks, which can be fatal to the bats. We know the bat boxes are occupied, so bat fatalities are a real risk. This will be an evening event, in order to make it more accessible to those with daytime commitments. Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy the sunset with us! Accessibility: * This event includes walking to the burdock patch, roughly 1.5 km over uneven terrain. * We will be removing plants using hand tools, as well as by hand-pulling, and taking bags of burrs back out with us. * There are no outhouse facilities at this land.
