Volunteer Interpreter - Oromo

Our Vision: Autistic and/or neurodivergent individuals across Alberta and beyond lead engaged, fulfilling lives with equitable opportunities for participation. 
Role Description: Volunteer interpreters support Centre staff by providing language interpretation during parent coaching sessions and team meetings, under staff supervision.

Responsibilities Outlined:
•	Provide interpreting services virtually (Zoom or Teams)
•	Interpret in “first person language”
•	Keep the conversation on track and follow the structure of the meeting 
•	Maintain boundaries
•	Be respectful of the family’s home environment, culture and practices
•	Help to develop trust & understanding between the client/their guardians and the clinical team
•	Debrief with the clinical team after each meeting and take their advice and suggestions into consideration

Qualifications/Competencies Required:
•	Fluently speak the language you are signing up to interpret 
•	Have a love of people and appreciation for the diversity of individuals with Autism
•	Possess good interpersonal and communication skills
•	Have a good attitude and be eager to learn
•	Be able to follow instructions 
•	Must demonstrate superb reliability 
•	Be willing to accept feedback on your performance
•	Have the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality 
•	Have a clean Clear Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Record Check (renewed every 3 years) **done through us at no cost to you

Time Commitment: Meetings are 1.5 hours long, one Friday in October, one Friday in January 2026, one Friday in May 2026.  Location: Virtually (Zoom or Teams).
