Community Support Visitor (Volunteer)

Looking for a fun, rewarding opportunity where you can share your time with others and make a difference?  Join the Welcome Home family and volunteer to be a friend to newly housed individuals.

Responsibilities:

-Develop a positive, supportive relationship with matched participant(s)
-Attend mandatory Welcome Home Program training sessions
-Connect with your match group for between 4 and 8 hours per month, meeting in the community with your match participant for at least two hours per month, for a minimum of 6 month

-Good interpersonal and relationship building skills
-Effective communication and listening skills
-Reliable and trustworthy
-Mature, caring and non-judgmental attitude 
-Respectful of people from diverse cultures, economic and educational backgrounds, sexual orientations, and life circumstances 
-Ability to maintain and model healthy, appropriate personal boundaries

Volunteers will have the opportunity to foster a relationship that will be mutually enriching and make a positive impact on the life of someone who previously experienced homelessness. As well, volunteers will increase their knowledge regarding the impact of mental health on the homeless population in Edmonton.  Reference letters are available upon request after 25 hours of service.
