Ukrainian-Speaking Friendly Visitor
General Description The Ukrainian-Speaking Friendly Visitor is a weekly volunteer role designed to provide companionship, emotional support, and meaningful social interaction to a Ukrainian-speaking resident. By engaging in mutually enjoyable activities and conversation, volunteers help reduce feelings of isolation and enhance the resident's overall well-being. This position is open to volunteers 18 years of age and older. Volunteers may choose a weekly schedule of 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. or 1:00–4:00 p.m., with a minimum commitment of one hour per visit. Responsibilities Volunteers may: Provide companionship, friendship, and emotional support. Help reduce isolation, loneliness, and depression through regular visits and conversation. Engage the resident in activities of mutual interest, such as: Playing cards or board games, Reading aloud, Arts and crafts, Writing letters or cards and Conversation and reminiscing Accompanying the resident on short walks within the facility, when appropriate Escort or accompany the resident to and from recreation programs and activity areas. Encourage and support the resident's participation in Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre recreation programs. Foster a welcoming, respectful, and supportive environment that values the resident's dignity, preferences, and abilities. Follow the direction of Recreation staff and adhere to all facility policies and procedures. Qualifications Must be 18 years of age or older. Ability to communicate fluently in Ukrainian and comfortably converse in English with staff. Friendly, compassionate, patient, and dependable. Able to commit to a regular weekly visit. Successful completion of the Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre volunteer onboarding requirements, including orientation and any required screening.
