The Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF) is a leading and dynamic philanthropic organization dedicated to fostering positive change and community development in greater Edmonton. We are seeking experienced and visionary volunteers to join our Board of Directors.
The Organization:
ECF is committed to building a vibrant city and enriching the lives of all Edmontonians. We do this by providing an average of over $35 million in grants and student awards each year, thanks to the generous support of thousands of donors. As the largest non-governmental funder of the charitable sector in our City, ECF is in a unique position to address long-term, complex community needs by working with donors, charities, volunteers, government and community partners.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
- Review and approve the purpose, vision, mission, and strategic direction of ECF.
- Review and approve Board policies.
- Appoint the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and establish the CEO’s terms of employment.
- Actively participate in Board and Committee meetings;
- Review materials in preparation for meetings and engage in discussions and decision
making;
- Support the decisions of the Board; speak as one voice.
- Serve on at least one committee of the Board.
- Represent ECF at key events.
Commitment:
- 10 hours per quarter to attend quarterly Board meetings (3 hours each), committee
meetings (up to 2 hours each), participate in the Annual Luncheon, strategic planning, and
ECF community events.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.
- The maximum term of service is six years comprised of two 3-year terms.
The Ideal Candidate:
Each year the Board reviews its composition and identifies requirements to ensure the Board maintains the right balance of capabilities and attributes contributing to a stronger and more effective Board.
We are currently seeking candidates with knowledge of or experience in one or more of the following:
- Financial Management – financial oversight, audit, and fiscal management
- Non-profit – charitable sector governance, fundraising, and program delivery
- Public sector – government relations, policy development, and public administration
- Sector/Business knowledge – affordable housing or early childhood development
- Past Board Chair experience an asset.
What we Offer:
- The ability to use your time and talents to make a meaningful impact in the community.
- Match contributions made by Board Directors to endowment funds to a maximum of
$1,200 per year while you are an active member of the ECF Board.
- As a funder of the charitable sector, our expectation is for every Board member to
consider beginning a fund during their tenure on the Board or donating to an existing
ECF Fund.
