Seniors for Kids
The Seniors for Kids Society is a unique grass roots non-profit organization governed under a board of directors.
We have been operating in Cochrane and area schools for over 26 years. A program coordinator manages the senior volunteers, SKS staff and students. Necessary materials are provided for matched one on one intergenerational mentorship of this unique Cochrane and area school-based programs. Minimum commitment is 1 hour a week during school hours and days at our partner schools/venues.
Senior volunteers act as representatives of the organization. All programs are overseen by a SKS school facilitator. We provide all crafts, board games, environmental projects and weekly activities.
Training and supervision are provided to ensure that all senior "grandparent" volunteers understand their roles, responsibilities and limitations and are able to undertake them in an appropriate and safe manner. We welcome seniors from all backgrounds to share their talents and wisdom with students that do not have grandparents in the area.
