The Cochrane Ecological Institute has been devoted to the preservation of Southern Alberta's biodiversity since it's beginnings in 1971. Our founders, adventurers, and conservationists Miles and Beryl Smeeton, believed that true conservation is multifaceted. The legacy of their belief still informs the work we do today, which includes:

Breeding of endangered indigenous species

Environmental impact evaluation

Ecosystem restoration through the reintroduction of extirpated flora and fauna

Rescue, rehabilitation, and release of injured and orphaned wildlife

Public education and field research

And the monitoring of habitat and species through the development of non-intrusive survey methods
